A journey around an aging world to discover how we, the living, can better care for our dead and dying.

“Sage” is a feature length documentary that examines aging and end-of-life rituals around the world. Filmed primarily in the country of Jordan by West Virginia filmmaker Clara Haizlett, the film inspires cross-cultural conversation around aging and dying, encouraging audiences to connect with practices of their own cultural communities, wherever they may come from. Though global in nature, the film is intended for Appalachian audiences. A viewing companion, in the form of a zine, invites Appalachians to examine traditions surrounding death and dying within our own region, prompting audiences to reflect on cultural practices that are at risk of being lost.
